ABOUT US Established in 1983, FEFAF - ‘European Federation of Parents and Carers at home’, represents 19 different national organisations from various countries throughout Europe.
We campaign so that opinion formers, academics, national governments, decision- making bodies, including policy makers at the UN and the EU (and other political forums) properly recognise that:
- Unpaid care should be equally valued, protected and recognised on a human, social and economic level. Caring for our youngest citizens, supporting our young people starting out in life - as well as companionship for elderly members of our families at home is ‘work’ of irreplaceable value.
- Caregivers are at higher risk of marginalisation and poverty and deserve equal rights and protections in all respects, to respect the importance of the invisible work they do. Caregiving is worth billions - indeed economies and communities would collapse without the contribution of dedicated carers.
- The care that children receive, especially during the first years of life impacts on the whole of adulthood and needs to be prioritized, protected and valued. Each family must have the choice to care for their child at home as much as they feel is needed, and to be supported and valued for this role. It’s not a stage that lasts forever but it matters hugely. Families should be allowed to decide what works best for them in their own unique circumstances.
